2024 Week 4 ACC Football Power Rankings

ACC Team of the Week : Boston College – for a 23-19 win over Michigan State

17. Wake Forest (1-2)

Last Week: 15

Wake Forest has been off for a week to prep for Louisiana. They dropped because Stanford and FSU picked up good wins, so the Deacs have to do some work to move up.

16. NC State (2-2)

Last Week: 11

NC State really is turning into a bona fide bad football team. Clemson ran them off the field in about 20 minutes of football time. Northern Illinois who beat Notre Dame is a dangerous next opponent.

15. Virginia Tech (2-2)

Last Week: 12

Virginia Tech keeps opening games against decent opponents in slow motion. This week they fell to Rutgers. Their reward is a Miami team eyeing the ACC title game and possibly the playoffs. A slow start here, and it’s a blowout.

14. Florida State (1-3)

Last Week: 17

Florida State’s offense is still a mess, but their defense played an inspired game in helping the Noles beat Cal. SMU will be a challenge this week.

13. North Carolina (3-1)

Last Week: 5

North Carolina plummets after a defensive debacle that saw them give up a whopping 70 points to James Madison. It was a disaster on every level. Now they get to play 4-0 Duke. There’s a joke about DC Geof Collins in there somewhere.

12. Stanford  (2-1)

Last Week: 16

Stanford surprised us all with a 26-24 win at Syracuse. Enjoy that win Cards because you now face a surging Clemson team.

11. Virginia  (3-1)

Last Week: 13

Virginia is quietly 3-1 after a solid win over Coastal Carolina. As they head into the BYE week, they can think about trying to make a bowl.

10. Georgia Tech (3-2)

Last Week : 9

Georgia Tech is just good enough to play with anyone,  but just bad enough that they can’t finish off games consistently. Sloppy football doomed them against Louisville. They have to clean things up during the BYE week preparing for their game with Duke.

9. Syracuse (2-1)

Last week: 8

I thought Syracuse was ready to go on a run, but played poorly against Stanford. Holy Cross should be a win, but the loss to Stanford left a mark.

8. SMU  (3-1)

Last Week: 11

SMU is tough to figure out. They’ve been inconsistent from week to week, but the great version showed up as SMU destroyed TCU. FSU provides a real shot to start the season 4-1.

7. California  (3-1)

Last Week: 2

Cal’s offense and special teams cost them against FSU. They have a week to prepare for a very good Miami team

6. Duke (4-0)

Last Week: 10

Duke struggles on offense. UNC struggles on defense so who has the advantage in a big rivalry game? Duke could get to 5-0.

5. Clemson (2-1)

Last Week: 7

Clemson continues to roll after clobbering NC State. I can’t move them into the top 4 until I see more on their resume, but they are getting hot at the right time. This week is a decent Stanford team.

4. Pitt (4-0)

Last week:  6\

Pittsburgh crushed Youngstown St. to get to 4-0. Pitt did great work in September and now gets a BYE week before UNC.

3. Louisville (3-0)

Last Week: 4

Louisville played their first credible team in Georgia Tech, and came away with a hard-earned 31-19 win. This week is a monster game at Notre Dame where the Cards can establish themselves as a playoff contender and knock the Irish out of the playoff race.

2. Boston College (3-1)

Last Week: 3

On a special night in Boston where the Eagles celebrated the Red Bandana game, they knocked off a previously 3-0 Michigan State in a gutsy comeback win. Western Kentucky should allow BC to move to 4-0.

1. Miami (4-0)

Last Week: 1

Miami destroyed a South Florida team 50-15 that was within 1 score of Alabama in the 4th quarter. They get a reeling Virginia Tech team Friday night.
