2024 Week 1 ACC Football Power Rankings

ACC Team of the Week : Miami  – for a 41-17 win at Florida

17. Florida State (0-2)

Last Week: N/A

Is the FSU truly the worst team in the ACC? After week 1 how can you say otherwise? Boston College took a kneel down inside the Noles 15 up 28-13 on Labor Day. The lines of scrimmage have been atrocious on both sides and don’t even get me started on DJU.

16. Stanford  (0-1)

Last Week: N/A

Stanford really pushed TCU in a 34-27 loss. They still could end up being the ACC’s worst team, but they showed some good things in that one. It’s the Cal-Poly Mustangs this week.

15. Virginia Tech (0-1)

Last Week: N/A

Virginia Tech’s was stunned at Vanderbilt. They played awful falling behind 17-0, took the lead and collapsed.  They can’t sleep on Marshall.

14. Duke (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

Duke struggled somewhat moving the ball in a 26-3 win over Elon, but I think a game at Northwestern is winnable.

13. California  (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

It was 14-13 at the half with UC-Davis, but Cal pulled away for a 31-13 win. Can they be competitive at Auburn?

12. Virginia  (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

Virginia quickly took care of Richmond and won 34-13. The winner of Wake Forest and Virginia could position themselves for a bowl game.

11. Wake Forest (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

It was a bit of a slow start against NC A&T, and then Wake Forest cruised for a 45-13 win. They open the ACC season with Virginia.

10. Pitt (1-0)

Last week:  N/A

Pittsburgh dropped 55 on Kent State. If they beat Cincinnati on this road though, we’ll start to pay attention.

9. Syracuse (1-0)

Last week: N/A

Syracuse gave up a ton of rushing yards to Ohio, but they’ve got a QB in Kyle McCord. They’ll put up points this year, and they could cause a lot problems for Georgia Tech this week.

8. SMU  (2-0)

Last Week: N/A

SMU nearly lost as a huge favorite to Nevada, but they still won. Then they cruised against Houston Christian. BYU is a good solid test to see where SMU truly is.

7. NC State (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

NC State trailed in the 4th quarter to FCS Western Carolina before pulling away 38-21. They better play a whole lot better against Tennessee.

6. Clemson (0-1)

Last Week: N/A

Clemson’s defense keeps me from dropping them too far. I think it’s legit. I also think they have the same issues on offense they’ve had for years until further notice. It was 6-0 Georgia at the half, then the Bulldogs rolled to a 34-3 win. App State is no gimme game.

5. North Carolina (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

Is North Carolina too high? Well they won a P4 game on the road against Minnesota with a backup QB. Now it’s a reset against UNC-Charlotte with QB Max Johnson out for the year. Connor Harrell is the man now.

4. Louisville (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

With so many teams struggling against G5 and FCS opponents, the Cardinals won 62-0 over Austin Peay. Next week should be another of week of prep against Jacksonville State.

3. Boston College (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

Boston College ran through over and around Florida State in a not as close as the score indicated 28-13 win. They have a great shot to start 2-0 with Duquesne.

2. Georgia Tech (2-0)

Last Week : N/A

This is a resume-based power ranking, not pre-season based. Georgia Tech beat previously #10 Florida State in an extremely well-played effort in Ireland 24-21. They followed it by covering a 20 point spread against Georgia State with their C game. At Syracuse will be a test though.

1. Miami (1-0)

Last Week: N/A

QB Cam Ward was dazzling as Miami wiped out Florida in the Swamp 41-17. The Canes may not have to break a sweat until mid October.
