As FSU lost their opener to Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech tripped all over themselves in a debacle of a loss to Vanderbilt, and Clemson didn’t look like they belonged on the same field with Georgia – Miami turned back the clock to somewhere in the late 80s, early 90s, or maybe the early the 2000s.
It was a throwback game where the Canes trounced the Gators in a 41-17 blowout in the Swamp no less.
Transfer QB Cam Ward looked spectacular throwing for 385 yards and 3 TDs. The Cane’s defense was fast and physical. They limited the Gators to just 261 total yards.
Miami coach Mario Cristobal could not have asked for a better start to the season.
Yeah, we know Florida HC Billy Napier is probably getting fired, and given their schedule the Gators are probably winning 4 or 5 games. That said Florida has some talent. This is not a team full of 2 and 3-star players and the game was in the Swamp.
When it was over, if they played 10 more times I think Miami was going to 10 more times. It was that strong a game for Miami.
Of course whenever Miami players, you get the all too familiar “The U is back”. Remember last year when Miami routed Texas A&M and got to 4-0 before the Georgia Tech end-of-game debacle?
There’s always in the back of your mind is this just a one-hit wonder of a game for the Canes? Well, when you look at the schedule there isn’t anyone for weeks that should challenge Miami.
Florida A&M, Ball State, at South Florida, Virginia Tech, at California – Do you see a losable game in there before the Canes go Louisville?
Virginia Tech appeared to be a tricky game, but the way they made Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia look like an All-American Cam Ward might total 400 yards in that game.
If Miami stays relatively they should roll into Louisville in the top 10. We can start really asking if they are back then, but today?
They were dazzling.
