ACC 2024 Football Schedule

Virginia Tech

There is a buzz about Virginia Tech we haven’t seen since early in Justin Fuente’s tenure way back in 2016-2017. We know how that turned out. Things never materialized, and Fuente eventually was no longer the Hokies head coach. Brent Pry comes in and goes 3-8 in 2022, but last year there were tangible signs that the Hokies program was moving forward. They won 5 of their last 7 games, after a 2-4 start. Kryon Drones emerged at QB, and more than one person has suggested that Virginia Tech could be this year’s 2023 Louisville Cardinals. Virginia Tech is certainly a team to watch going into the season.

Will Go 10-2 (6-2) if:

Virginia Tech can take advantage of a manageable schedule. Virginia avoids FSU, NC State, and Louisville in the ACC, and they get Clemson at home. Rutgers is the best OOC opponent the Hokies play, and that’s at Virginia Tech. The Hokies can think big if they can get to their game at Miami 4-0. They open at Vanderbilt, Marshall, Old Dominion then the Rutgers game. After that Virginia Tech could be favored in every one of their remaining games except probably Clemson. The defensive line is sneaky really good, and if Hokies can improve from being 57th in rush defense this could be one of the very best defenses in the ACC. If Kryon  Drones can just take a few steps forward in his ability to pass consistently, there are darkhorse Heisman whispers.

Will Go 7-5 (4-4) if:

Virginia Tech can’t handle the weight of expectations. The last time Virginia Tech won 9 games was in 2017. That was 7 years ago. At times last year, the Hokies offense was stuck in mud especially earlier in the year, and they have to improve on being 95th in the country in passing. While the schedule is on the softer side, there are tricky games. Rutgers should be pretty solid, a game at Miami will be tough, and Clemson is obviously difficult.  Games at Syracuse and at Duke could be tricky, and Georgia Tech is good enough to steal one in Blacksburg. If the offense is average, and the defense slips from last year 7-5 is not out of the question.
