Good morning and just a quick post.
Sports are and can be healing.
To win here is special. To defend here is elite.

I felt like I was watching the changing of the guard this morning watching 21-year old Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) absolutely wipe out 37-year old Novak Djokovic (Serbia) in the Wimbledon men’s singles title through straight sets. Djokovic is a tennis legend – it’s hard for anyone to dispute that. And today, Alcaraz went through this match much like UConn went on their 30-0 run vs. Illinois in the NCAA tournament’s men’s basketball elite 8. Novak was massively gracious in defeat, too – so much praise for his opponent, family, and coaches. Mind you, I’m not an expert on tennis – like @MattZemek – I’m a casual watcher here 😉
Certainly wouldn’t be telling the truth here if I didn’t want something more competitive – I did – I wanted five sets – but Alcaraz was not having any of that.
With everything going on in the world – issues of economic security, international security, electoral politics – you name it – people need a detour from the struggles of daily life. Sports gives you an escape from current events – and good heavens, we all need that at times. I didn’t want the match to end – but it was also fun watching this ridiculously talented young tennis player from Spain.
