Well, here we go. It’s time to start ranking the best players in the ACC for the 2024 season. If you see players from Stanford, Cal, or SMU – it’s not a misprint. Here we go!
As usual, we hope you enjoy the rankings.
Previous and Upcoming Rankings
Quarterbacks | Running Backs | Wide Receivers | Offensive Linemen | Tight Ends | Defensive Linemen | Linebackers | Cornerbacks | Special Teams
1) Jonas Sanker, Virginia
We have not seen many Virginia players on our top 5 ACC player position rankings. Well, we’ve got one here, and it’s the best ACC player going into the season at the safety position Jonas Sanker. Several publications have him among the top 5 Safeties in the country, as he comes off a 1st team All-ACC 2023 season.
He had 107 tackles last season and has good size at 6-2. Mock NFL Draft projections have going anywhere from the 2nd to the 4th round.
2) Mishael Powell, Miami
Miami cleaned up in the transfer portal and they are cleaning up in our rankings. Mishael Powell a transfer safety from Washington should bolster the Hurricane’s secondary. He joins Miami after 5 years with the Huskies. Last season saw him earn a Pac-12 Defensive Back of the Week award. On the year he 3 interceptions and started all 15 games games for the national title runner-up.
3) Shyheim Brown, Florida State
Shyheim Brown is one the very best returning safeties in the ACC. Last season saw him make the All-ACC 3rd team in a year where he had 53 tackles and 2 sacks. At 6-2 213 lbs, he has the size you like to see at safety.
Each year he has been at FSU he has improved. Starting with his RS-FR year which garnered some freshman All-American attention to last year’s All-ACC season. If he continues that trajectory he should be due for a monster season in 2024.
4) Donovan McMillon, Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh is looking to rebound after last year’s frustrating 3-9 season. They are looking to one of their defensive stars Donovan McMillon to help lead the charge back for the Panthers.
McMillon was an honorable mention All-ACC player in a 105 tackle in 2023. The transfer from Florida is starting to live up to the hype that saw him be one of the highest-rated HS safeties a few years ago. Of the safety group here, he might be the best pure tackler.
5) Craig Woodson, Cal
As Cal goes from the Pac 12 to the ACC, they bring with them high-quality safety in Craig Woodsen. Wooden had an 81 tackle and 4 pass breakup season in 2023. That gives him over 150 tackles in the last two seasons in a couple of honorable mention All-Pac12 years.
He’s made several All-ACC pre-season lists and will bring a wealth of experience back as a 6th-year senior Cal.
