Greg Sankey proposes ban on Sun Belt, Big South ASUN teams from future NCAA fields. (satire?)

Following Clemson regional #2 Seed Vanderbilt’s stunning loss to Big South and #4 seed High Point, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey called an impromptu press conference televised by every ESPN family of network channel including the ACC Network to address the Commodore’s elimination. In addition #2 Seed Alabama in the Florida State regional was eliminated by the ASUN’s Stetson Hatters the #4 Seed in the Florida State regional.

In his opening statement, Sankey said – “I would like to congratulate the Sun Belt’s Coastal Carolina and the Big South’s High Point for defeating one of the SEC’s most esteemed baseball programs the Vanderbilt Commodores. While I have the utmost respect for these two programs, teams from the Sun Belt and Big South should be banned from NCAA tournaments. While I’m at it throw in the ASUN. Their representative the Stetson Hatters in defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide, only proved to me and the world that Alabama didn’t want to be in the post-season. There is no other way an ASUN team can beat someone from the SEC.”

Asked to clarify his statement, Sankey responded with…

“The SEC is the premier collection of baseball teams in the world, and any team from SEC would likely win 150 games if we played a MLB schedule. After releasing the NCAA field, I was stunned that not every SEC baseball team was included in the NCAA tournament. These mid to low major conferences are getting undeserved bids and taking bids from the Southeastern Conference”

This statement was followed up with a question, “Doesn’t wins by Coastal Carolina, High Point, and Stetson indicate that there are deserving NCAA teams across the country?”

From Greg Sankey

“Of course not their television contracts pale in comparison to our TV Deals, recruiting rankings, and computer metrics. We are entering a new era of sports where winning on the field is an antiquated and outdated method to determine who is the better team. We must adjust to the changing landscape of college athletics, and in addition to banning  the Sun Belt, Big South, and ASUN from future fields, I will be initiating congressional changes to have various SEC programs named national champions prior to any collegiate sporting event.”

Big 10 commissioner Tony Petitti also in attendance remarked “we know we are a garbage baseball league, but our TV Deals are big too.” Sankey turned to Petitti and was overheard saying “Just keep cashing checks Tony and pipe down” as Petitti bowed to Sankey and returned to his seat. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormak and ACC commissioner Jim Phillips had nothing to say, but in an odd gesture placed a crown on Sankey’s head as both kissed a large ring on Sankey’s left hand.

Paul Finebaum went to social media and after a twitter tirade disparaging Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney called Greg Sankey the greatest leader the world has ever known.

These are certainly strange times for college athletics.
