May is usually the time to start thinking about the college football season. We’re a little early to start a player analysis, but it’s time for a deep dive into the schedule. We’ve already looked at the ACC’s 10 best OOC games, and now it’s time to check in on one of the ACC’s best conference games of the season starting with games 6-10.
1) Clemson vs Florida State – October 5, 2024
Is it 2024 or 2014? Clemson vs Florida State is back to being the ACC’s premier game. Will it be an ACC matchup for too many more years? Who knows, but this year the winner has the inside track to the ACC Title game. The two biggest ACC football brands probably aren’t national title contenders, but they are both good enough to make the expanded playoffs. In fact I’ll say it now the winner makes the playoffs.
2) Clemson vs Virginia Tech – November 9, 2024
Virginia Tech fans haven’t had a lot to excited in recent years. Now they do going into the 2024 season they do. Coming off 7-6 season, a bowl win, and winners of three of their last four games, Virginia Tech is getting buzz as this year’s potential Louisville Cardinals. Kryon Drones is returning at QB, and guess who comes to Lane Stadium in what should be an electric atmosphere. The Clemson Tigers may be trying to get into playoff contention. It’s not out of the question that Virginia Tech would be playing for playoff positioning as well. This could be a huge game.
3) Miami vs Florida State – October 26, 2024
The pickup for Miami of QB Cam Ward suddenly makes Miami a very intriguing team going into this season. They host Florida State in this one. There is so much history in this game, the classic games, the Hall of Fame coaches, and all the great players. It’s rarely been the matchup while the two have been in the ACC many expected, as both can’t seem to be good at the same. That said there’s just something special about this game. I think the Noles will be solid, and with Cam Ward, the Canes might be a surprise team in the ACC.
4) Miami vs Virginia Tech – September 27, 2024
When Miami and Virginia Tech meet you think of those big-time Big East matchups in the late 90s and early 2000s. The QB matchup between Virginia Tech’s Kryon Drones and Miami’s Cam Ward could be the best QB battle in the ACC this season. It’s early in the season, and the winner could be an ACC contender for the rest of the season. I’m looking forward to this matchup,
5) Georgia Tech vs Florida State – August 24, 2024
Georgia Tech vs Florida State is the first noteworthy of game of the college football season. ESPN Gameday will be there, and FSU fans can’t wait to let * cough * various ESPN announcers have it after the Noles playoff snub. Don’t sleep on Georgia Tech though. The Jackets are coming off their first winning season since 2018, and their first bowl win since 2016. Brent Key has the Georgia Tech restoration project right on schedule and this is a good measuring stick game. The game is in Ireland, so that should be a lot of fun. This is a really nice matchup to open the season.
