ACC Men’s Basketball 3 Biggest questions for week of January 30, 2024

As we move along with conference season, we ask the three biggest ACC basketball questions for this week.

Can Duke win at UNC?

Duke dispatched Virginia Tech on the road Monday without a lot of resistance. It was Duke’s best performance since their win over Baylor in December. Defensively they locked down the Hokies, and they controlled every facet of the game. Can they win at UNC on Saturday night? The Heels are just at another level right now and are playing as well as anyone in the country. I like Duke’s talent, but the Heels are at home and haven’t lost since mid-December. I still wonder about Duke’s interior defense, and I think UNC will be able to take advantage. They’ll also be steamed after getting beat at Georgia Tech.

Who makes a NCAA move this week?

Virginia Tech had an opportunity and already lost to Duke. Virginia has won 4 games in a row. I like them to get their 5th win in a row over Notre Dame. They go on the road Saturday to play Clemson. Wake Forest goes to Pittsburgh and then hosts Syracuse. Miami plays at NC State, then gets Virginia Tech at home. Well somebody has to get a road win. My money is on Wake Forest, and if they get to 15-6 (7-3) they are squarely back on the bubble.

Is the ACC a 2 Bid League?

No, because that’s stupid. I lay out here all the details of why it’s so dumb.   The ACC has six teams in the top 50 in the NET. SIX! What if Clemson loses to Louisville on Tuesday, and Virginia gets beat by Notre Dame on Wednesday- both are at home. It couldn’t happen, could it? Let’s be realistic. The ACC as a 2 or even 3 bid is as dumb as it sounds, but when a team on the bubble-like Virginia Tech plays 35 minutes of flat basketball like they did Monday against Duke that doesn’t help the bid argument.
