Good evening Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.
I was seriously wondering if it was a misprint when I saw Pat Forde’s Sports Illustrated article dropping Sportsman of the Year (and it should be Sportsperson of the Year) for Deion Sanders. Like I was actually seriously wondering if Forde misspelled Coco Gauff’s name wrong when typing Deion Sanders in his article.
Deion Sanders is the University of Colorado head football coach. We all know about Deion’s college and pro football playing career.
In 2023, Sanders when 4-8 overall – and 1-8 in the Pac-12. Sanders lost 42-6 to Oregon – and probably could have lost 84-6 if Oregon kept their starters in the entire game. . No one can deny the Sanders put a lot of TV eyeballs on Colorado – and their stands were full (and people took a keen interest in the Buffaloes). While Colorado was as competitive as the team has been in years, I really don’t think 4-8 overall and 1-8 in the Pac-12 is worthy of Sportsman of the Year.
Coco Gauff, however, rocked it in New York City. At 19 years old, this young woman blazed through the U.S. Open women’s tennis tournament – and took home a title. She as inspiring as hell. There isn’t even a comparison here.
Pat Forde missed on this one.
