Louisville chokes away coveted win over Kentucky.

Louisville has had an amazing regular season. When you are 10-2 and make an appearance in the ACC Title game, it is and unbelievable, unreal, and special season. It’s not a magical one unless you beat Kentucky.

Louisville didn’t and so it wasn’t.

It’s not fair, but that’s reality.

Kentucky had 1 win since September and came into the game 6-5.

Louisville led 17-7 in the 3rd quarter when the massive choke job ensued.

Kentucky had 100 yard KO return, then Louisville got a TD to go up 24-14 and Kentucky outscored the Cardinals 24-7 the rest of the way as Louisville had two turnovers, breakdowns all over the field on defense, and without Devin Leary’s gift interception, the final score would have been even worse than 38-31.

Now Louisville could win the ACC, and their bowl game go 11-2 and finish in the top 10, but an arch-rival Kentucky team that’s going to lose at least 5 games if not more will always have bragging rights on the 2023 Louisville Cardinals.

Opportunities for magical seasons do not come often for the large majority of football programs.

Louisville and Jeff Brohm had a wonderful shot at one Saturday and simply handed the game to Kentucky on a silver platter who to their credit took advantage of every Louisville mistake. Louisville became the team that lost to Pitt at the worst possible time. Doing it at home made it even worse.

This one will and should burn the Cardinals for a long time, because they flat blew a golden opportunity at a magical season and coveted win over arch-rival Kentucky.
