The Miami Hurricanes were so close. The Canes finished the regular season 7-5 (3-5) after Friday’s dominating 45-20 win over Boston College. It was an uneven regular season for HC Mario Christobal and the Canes. Miami was in every single one of their regular season games. They never lost a game by more than 14 points and losing 3 other single-digit games, and they didn’t lose to a team that isn’t going to a bowl game. There was of course a game debacle against Georgia Tech too, but you are what your record says you are.
As we look back on Miami’s regular season we saw a team was in the top 35 in both offense and defense. It was a team that scored 48 points on Texas A&M’s top 10 ranked defense, and came back from down 10 in the 4th quarter to defeat Clemson. Miami mirrored the play of QB Tyler Van Dyke. When he was in Miami was on a top 25 team, when he wasn’t the offense and team struggled. Like the Canes as a whole, he flashed potential.
Friday – Miami looked fast and athletic. They ran up over 500 yards of offense and held Boston College to just 294. Last week they played well but lost to a top 10 Louisville team. The week before they were competitive against a pre-injury Jordan Travis led FSU on the road. There were glimpses all season of Miami’s potential.
That said the Canes made a 2 game improvement from last year, with a chance at an 8th win in the bowl game. Certainly, a bowl win would go a long way for Christobal and the Canes. Even before the bowl schedules are released, Miami will be one of the ACC programs that most needs a win in their bowl game. At some point, you have to start cashing on potential, and the bowl game is big for Miami.
We’ll see where and when Miami ends up…
