Georgia Tech met the moment against Syracuse – now headed to a bowl.

As my podcast partner, @ASD_Hokiesmash said today – Louisville “met the moment” at Miami. They did and they clinched an appearance in the ACC Championship game.

Another team “met the moment”  today. Georgia Tech didn’t quite have the national stakes on the line that Louisville did, but for a rebuilding program, it was still a hugely significant moment.

Georgia Tech hadn’t been to a bowl game since 2018. They suffered through the nightmare Geoff Collins era, where Georgia Tech had become arguably one of the worst programs in all of college football.

When your program is that low, the hardest part is just learning how to win.

Georgia Tech earlier in the year blew double-digit or 2nd half leads to Louisville, Bowling Green, and Boston College.

This is a resilient team though and found ways to beat Miami and North Carolina, but could they start to win games they were supposed to win?

Georgia Tech with four games left had to win two games to go bowling. One of those four games was Georgia so you could probably scratch that as the Bulldogs are just erasing everything in their path. Winning Death Valley also didn’t seem likely, as even though Clemson has slipped they only had a 1 point loss and an OT loss at home the last two years. Oh they are playing the best football in November too.

The Jackets needed to beat both Virginia and Syracuse. Georgia Tech won at Virginia 45-17 which was impressive as the Hoos had been in every ACC game this year.

Saturday night against Syracuse the Jackets raced out to a 24-3 lead when to their credit Syracuse chipped away and scored 19 straight unanswered points.

With 7 minutes left and the ball, the moment had arrived for Georgia Tech. Put together a drive and the Georgia Tech would go bowling.

Brent Key is starting to change the culture in Atlanta. Georgia Tech put together that drive – a 5+ minute 75 yard TD scoring drive behind QB Haynes King. The maligned defense closed out the game with an interception.

It would be icing on the cake of a season if Georgia Tech could win a bowl game, but just making a bowl game is a big deal for Georgia Tech.

If they could shock the world and beat Georgia next, they might just build a statue of Brent Key.
