Louisville went into their game with Miami 9-1, and without question were the ACC’s number 2 team. They still weren’t a lock to be Florida State’s opponent though in the ACCG. They had to win at Miami to clinch their birth in the ACC Championship game.
The Canes are a talented, but erratic team – capable of looking great one minute, and like a trainwreck the next. The fact they were just a kneel down from 7-3, and handful of plays from 8-2 spoke to how dangerous Miami could be.
Louisville got a Miami team team that played inspired and hard today. QB Tyler Van Dyke was back starting for the Canes, and played his best game in 2 months. Van Dyke threw for 327 and 1 TD with no interceptions. The Hurricane offense rolled up 486 yards offense and led 21-20 at the half.
Each time Louisville seemed to lose their grip on the game, and Miami appeared to take control, they responded.
Louisville behind QB Jack Plummer and his 3 TDs and 308 yards kept answering the bell. Trailing 28-23 going into the 4th quarter, the Cardinals did what great teams do. They took control of the game in a hostile environment.
The Cardinals outscored Miami 15-3 in the 4th quarter.
So often the last few years a worthy second team hasn’t shown up in the ACC. The Cards are helping to setup with Florida State one of the most compelling ACCCG ever.
Louisville is at 10-1, and every bit a top 10 team.
Jeff Brohm in his first year has done an amazing job, and this team has been resilient all year. From the comeback in game 1 against Georgia Tech to the followup after the loss to Pitt.
As my podcast partner, @ASD_Hokiesmash said today – Louisville “met the moment” at Miami.
I don’t think the story is finished being written on this Louisville team, as their incredible season just keeps going.
