Boston College greatly enhances bowl chances – sending GT’s to life support.

Boston College and Georgia Tech was a middle-of-the-pack ACC game that maybe wasn’t on a lot of people’s radar outside their fanbases, but the post-season ramifications would be huge for the winner and loser of the game.

When it was all over Boston College had won 38-23 and suddenly at 4-3 Jeff Hafley has Boston College in a great position to make a bowl game. Georgia Tech on the other hand floundered again at home in a winnable game.

Following a 56-28 loss to Louisville Boston College sat 1-3. Hotseat rumors were swirling around Jeff Hafley, and some thought outside of Virginia that this might be the worst team in the ACC, but there was a little hope. The performance against FSU in a 31-29 home loss inspired taht. QB Thomas Castellanos ran the FSU defense ragged in a way that not even LSU’s Jayden Daniels could in my opinion.

Could BC start to harness that performance against lesser teams?

There were close wins against Virginia and Army, and then down 23-17 later in the 3rd quarter against Georgia Tech, Boston College turned into a team that looked like they wanted to make a post-season appearance. They scored 21 unanswered and rolled to a double-digit victory. The schedule setups well with UCONN next in a game I expect Boston College to win. Then the Eagles have to find 1 more win against Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, or Miami. There isn’t any reason to think that isn’t possible for Boston College with their newfound confidence. Even a 7th or 8th win isn’t out of the question. The Eagles are physical, getting good QB play, and learning how to win. That’s not a team, I’d want to face in the 2nd of half of the season.

Georgia Tech and Brent Key on the other hand saw their season likely sink into the playing with pride territory. Sure the Georgia Tech schedule is insane, but when you lose winnable home games like Boston College and Bowling Green at home there are no excuses.

The Jackets are 3-4 with UNC, Virginia, Clemson, Syracuse, and Georgia left. Sure Georgia Tech is not mathematically eliminated from a bowl, but where are 3 more wins coming from?

Brenty Key has to figure out why in all 4 losses there have been extended 17+ point unanswered scoring streak in the 2nd half of games. It has probably cost Georgia Tech the post-season, and raises questions about what exactly is Brent Key and his staff are doing in the 2nd half of some of these games.
