Louisville shows guts, maturity, and heart in win at NC State.

I saw tweets tonight that said Louisville is not that good a 5-0 team. Those accounts that said that are missing the entire point of what Louisville has accomplished so far this season. Nobody is saying that’s a playoff team – yet.

The Cardinals came into the season with three 50/50 type games in their first 5 matchups of the season, Georgia Tech, Indiana, and NC State.

They won them all, and they won them all in 3 different ways. Against Georgia Tech they had to outscore the Jackets 39-34 after being down double digits at the half. When they played Indiana, they looked brilliant in the 1st half and held on for dear life in the second half in a 21-14 win. Friday night against NC State, they came up with their best defensive performance of the season shutting out the Wolfpack in the 2nd half, and making just enough plays on offense.

Jeff Brohm is throwing himself into the ACC COY race with this start. Brohm has instilled a level of confidence I haven’t seen from Louisville since Lamar Jackson was playing QB there. They are just finding ways to win. Sometimes their offense carries the load, sometimes it’s the defense.

That’s what rapidly maturing teams do.

They find different ways to win games.

Now they get what Jeff Brohm set out to do when he got to Louisville. That’s playing in high profile important games. The Cardinals get Notre Dame in a prime-time matchup at home on national TV ABC next week.

Talk about having that game on the horizon, and still taking of business at NC State. That’s another sign of maturity.

I expect the environment to rival what we saw during the Jackson years at Louisville, and that can be absolutely frenzied.

If they are not ranked in the top 25 this week, the pollsters simply aren’t watching football.
