It was certainly a tale of different halves for the Louisville Cardinals. In the first half against Indiana, Louisville raced out to a 21-0 lead. They looked fast, and aggressive against a team that held Ohio State to 23 points.
In the 2nd half, Louisville appeared to stay in the locker room. The offense couldn’t move the ball, and the defense looked helpless. Indiana cut the lead to 21-14, and sat inside the the Louisville 2 yardline with a chance to tie the game.
Despite the inconsistent play, seasons are defined by plays like what Louisville came up with.
A defense that had struggled in the 3rd and 4th quarters came up with an incredible 4th down goalline stand.
Then the Louiville QB Jack Plummer made several plays with his feet to keep Indiana from getting the ball back.
Louisville closed out the game to get to 3-0.
Just ask Florida State if you are always going to play flawlessly everytime out after their 31-29 win over Boston College.
Louisville did what they needed to do to keep the ball rolling, but they are showing a disturbing tendency to play great and and terrible in the same game.
They did it against Georgia Tech in a mess of a 2nd quarter, and they did it Saturday with a mostly no show 2nd half.
We’ve seen glimpses of what Louisville can be under new coach Jeff Brohm, but the consistency has to be cleaned up for the Cardinals to reach their full potential. Brohm will need to figure out how to get a 4 quarter game out of his team against decent opponents.
That said Louisville is still finding ways to win.
They are coming up with the plays that lead to special seasons.
This is a team that you better be paying attention too in this years ACC.
