This will be a new series.
The three biggest ACC football question marks of that week. Here we go for Week 1.
Can Florida State handle raised expectations against LSU?
Last year we asked Can Florida State return to national relevance against LSU? The answer was a resounding yes at the end of that game and at the of the season. Florida State football is again one of college football’s top off-season stories going into the season, but how will they handle these raised expectations? We’re going to find out right away in week 1 against LSU. LSU in their own right is considered a playoff contender, and they are certainly talented. If the Noles win, they will put themselves on the shortlist of early-season playoff contenders. FSU hasn’t entered the season with these kinds of expectations in a number of years. A non-competitive effort will have critics thinking the Noles still have a ways to go.
What will Clemson’s offense look like?
A game at Duke is a good early season test for Clemson. It could be too much of a test if Clemson isn’t ready. I think the Tigers will be fine defensively, but everyone is wondering what the offense will look like with a new QB in Cade Klubnik and new OC coordinator Garrett Riley. It’s been a while since Clemson has had much explosion to their offense. We’re going to find out real quick against a credible opponent if Clemson has the potential to be better than the last couple of years.
Can North Carolina take a step forward against South Carolina?
North Carolina football won’t get a better chance to raise their national profile than a prime-time game against a decent SEC opponent. South Carolina is no Georgia or Alabama, but they did wipe out Tennessee’s playoff hopes and beat Clemson in Death Valley last season. The Heels were 9-1 before the wheels came off last season. Can Drake Maye come through in a big game with the nation watching? A win here would do so much for UNC”s profile.
