Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans. Wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying the summer.
We step out of the ACC tonight to recognize National Basketball Association (NBA) veteran, the Denver Nuggets’ Jeff Green.
Jeff Green is one of two remaining Seattle Supersonics in the NBA. If you can guess the other Seattle Supersonic, we will give you a shout out on the next @AllSportsDACC podcast. In 2007, he was the Boston Celtics’ 5th overall pick in the NBA draft, but was traded to Seattle. Everyone loved Jeff Green at Georgetown University. While a junior at Georgetown,, he was 1st-team all Big East, the Big East player of the year, and the Hoyas made the Final Four.. you had the feeling that the sky was the limit for this guy.
Green has spent 14 years in the NBA. He has played for 11 different teams – a well-traveled NBA veteran. During the 2011-2012 NBA season, Green head season-ending open heart surgery – and there was some question as to whether he would play again. But he used that time to finish his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University. And he came back stronger than ever. We’re talking about about a guy here – that even after 14 seasons – is strong as an ox at 6’8″ 235lbs.
Green is used to playing in the “non-superstar” role now – but you can never undervalue the experience and wisdom he brings to a team. This sounds cliche, but it’s like having another coach on the floor.
Congratulations to Jeff Green for his NBA title. There was no player I wanted more to get a title than him – and I’m happy as heck for Jeff Green.
