Does Virginia Tech get back on the bubble this week?
When Virginia Tech sat 1-7 in the ACC just a couple of weeks they looked done. Even as they got healthy it looked like just too big a mountain to climb. After winning 3 of their last 4 including victories over Duke and Virginia and a NET ranking of 50, the Hokies sit 14-9 (4-8) with five Q1/Q2 wins. They wouldn’t be in the NCAA field if selections were this week, but the bubble is not far off on the horizon.
The Hokies host Boston College and Notre Dame. Those are two very winnable, but dangerous games for Virginia Tech, but at 16-9 (6-8) a shot at an at-large bid becomes realistic. I think the Hokies are playing with enough confidence and desperation they will get there.
Is Miami the ACC’s Hottest team?
Miami had been struggling a bit on the road. Any ACC team with a loss to Georgia Tech, and Miami is the only one – could have a question mark beside their name. To their credit, Miami looks like a different team in the last 3 games. They knocked off Virginia Tech who is playing well recently. They went to Clemson and won, and then throttled Duke at home. Miami is starting to play a little defense, and with Louisville at home Saturday they should be on a 4 game-winning streak. Their guards are the toughest one on one matchups in the conference.
NC State may have an argument as the ACC’s hottest team, but Miami is right there in the discussion.
Will Clemson fall from the top of the ACC?
We asked last week if could Clemson recover from a loss to Boston College. The answer turned out to be no as Clemson fell at home to Miami Saturday. Now with a game at desperate North Carolina Saturday, the Tigers could be looking at 3 a game losing streak.
Virginia, NC State, Pittsburgh, and Miami are playing well and are hard-charging right behind Clemson. It is difficult to see Clemson holding off all 4 much longer.
