Good evening and hope you Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans are doing well.
I’ve been watching Virginia Tech men’s basketball the last few games – and I’ve noticed something really important: Virginia Tech does not have a matchup problem in the post for pretty much any other ACC team it plays. Keve Aluma nor Kerry Blackshear, Jr are not walking through that door. There is no Hokie at the three, four, or five spot who will be on the first, second, or third all-ACC teams. While the Hokies have good guards, you need a post guy who can keep other teams honest.
A 1-7 start in the ACC is not what we expected to be sure with so many returning players. However, when you so much reliance on three-point shooting – and it’s not going well (like tonight, for example, at 6/22 from three-point land vs. Clemson) – it exacerbates your weaknesses at the 3-4-5. When you compound that with 14 turnovers, you have little margin to spare.
I realize this sounds negative – but it’s where I’m right now.
Hopefully it gets better for Hokie Nation.
