Is this week NC State’s last NCAA Stand?
The first week of the new year might be a little early to say it’s a make-or-break NCAA at-large week, but for NC State it might be that week. The Wolfpack are 11-4, but just 1-3 in the ACC. They don’t yet have a Q1 win, and this week they host Duke and then play at Virginia Tech. Could they really cover from a 1-5 ACC start? I wouldn’t like their chances at all. This team is too talented to already be fighting for their NCAA lives this early into the conference season.
Can Clemson win on the road?
At home Clemson is a tough out. In fact they are 8-0 in Littlejohn, but if they are going to be a true threat in the ACC even after their 3-0 ACC start, they need to prove they can win on the road. This week are a couple of tough tests with two NCAA-caliber teams in Pitt and Virginia Tech this week. If Clemson can get a split, we really need to start paying attention to them.
Is Virginia back on track?
After losing back-to-back games to Houston and Miami, Virginia needed to show they were the elite team we saw in November and early December. They cruised against Albany and Georgia Tech, but beating teams of that caliber doesn’t really prove much. Now if you can go on the road and beat a red hot Pittsburgh team and take care of a decent Syracuse team at home – then you have something. Pittsburgh in particular is a very dangerous game.
