With the loss of starting of QB Devin Leary for the season, NC State’s outlook for the rest of the year looked bleak. Backup QB Jack Chambers gave good effort, but just couldn’t generate any offense for the Wolfpack. Against Virginia Tech Dave Doeren rolled the dice and went with true freshman MJ Morris briefly in rotation with Chambers then with Morris all the way.
Morris looked talented, but cleary inexperienced early. As NC State got down 21-3, their season looked cooked.
Then a switch went off for Morris, and he guided the Wolfpack back to 22-21 win aided by defense that shut the Hokies down in the 4th quarter. That’s how fast things can chance in college football.
Here are some of the tweets that followed after Morris’s amazing debut.
MJ Morris last night: 20-29 passing for 265 yards and 3 TDs.

Poised, relaxed, accurate, saw the field well, got the ball out on time. Big time for a true freshman. 👏 MJ Morris
