ACC Team of the Week : Duke – for a 31-23 win over Northwestern
14. Georgia Tech (1-1)
Last Week : 14
Georgia Tech should be glad they got by Western Carolina 35-17 in a sloppy effort. There may not be another win on the schedule, though I think they find a way to win 1 or 2 more before we likely close the Geoff Collins era in Atlanta. Ole Miss is this week.
13. Boston College (0-2)
Last Week: 10
Boston College gets Maine this week, and thank goodness because they’ve looked awful the first two weeks.
12. Virginia (1-1)
Last Week: 7
Virginia looked listless against Illinois, and the offensive line has major issues. Old Dominion this week has already beat Virginia Tech, and teams from the Sun Belt are mowing down the power 5. The Hoos better be ready.
11. Virginia Tech (1-1)
Last Week: 13
Virginia Tech’s defense can cause some problems, and they didn’t let Old Dominion beat them twice. Wofford should get them to 2-1.
10. Duke (2-0)
Last Week: 12
Duke’s win at Northwestern has the Blue Devils thinking bowl. Mike Elko has done a great job in the early season.
9. Louisville (1-1)
Last Week: 11
Louisville responded to an ugly opener at Syracuse with one of their best defensive efforts in years winning at Central Florida. Can they make it back-to-back wins over Florida teams with FSU next?
8. Syracuse (2-0)
Last week: 9
If Syracuse gets by Purdue at home, they could be looking at a 5-0 start. This is a big game for Syracuse who have looked impressive to start the year.
7. North Carolina (3-0)
Last Week: 8
Remember when people thought UNC’s close win over App State said more about the Heels than App State being good? Ask Texas A&M what they think about the Mountaineers. UNC gets a much-needed break after their 3-0 start to prepare for a now-beatable-looking Notre Dame team that just got thumped at home by Marshall.
6. Pitt (1-1)
Last week: 3
Pittsburgh was ravaged with injuries in a physical game with Tennessee, and the defense hasn’t been as good as we expected. Western Michigan beat Pitt last year and is up next.
5. Wake Forest (2-0)
Last Week: 6
Wake Forest easily handled Vanderbilt. Don’t look past Liberty with Clemson up next.
4. Miami (2-0)
Last Week: 5
Opportunity awaits Miami against a Texas A&M whose season went down the drain in a shocking loss to Appalachian State.
3. Florida State (2-0)
Last Week: 4
Florida State’s game at Louisville suddenly looks very intriguing. Win and the Noles likely enter the top 25.
2. NC State (2-0)
Last Week: 2
Ok NC State if you are a top 15 team, you beat a decent Texas Tech team on your home field.
1. Clemson (2-0)
Last Week: 1
The pre-season portion of Clemson’s schedule has one more game against Louisiana Tech. The Tigers still don’t seem to be hitting on cylinders yet.
