The ACC’s three biggest questions of week 3.

Will NC State finally get that OOC victory that people pay attention to?

For all the good work Dave Doeren and NC State have done over the last few years save the Covid 2020 season, they still haven’t won that OOC game under Doeren that caught people’s attention. There was the win over Notre Dame a few years back, but that was a 4-8 Irish team. Last year the Wolfpack fell flat at Mississippi State, and then they didn’t get the chance to face UCLA in a bowl game. This week they play a pretty decent Texas Tech team coming off a victory over a previously ranked Houston. Would this count as a true signature win? Probably not, but at home against a B12 team, it would start to erase the Wolfpack’s OOC struggles. If you want a special season, you don’t lose games like this.

Is Saturday the beginning of the end for Geoff Collins?

Georgia Tech is 1-1 to open the season, which is where most everyone expected them to be after playing Clemson and Western Carolina. Saturday the Yellow Jackets have a three-game stretch with Ole Miss, UCF, and Pittsburgh where Georgia Tech must win at least 1 of the 3 or it’s all but assured Collins will get fired. Thus far, Georgia Tech hasn’t shown anything to prove they are significantly improved from any previous Collins team. It’s now or never Geoff Collins.

Is Miami ready for prime time against Texas A&M?

Here’s your chance Miami. What looked like a likely loss at top 10 Texas A&M suddenly looks like an opportunity. After Appalachian State exposed the Aggies in College Station as a team with significant offensive deficiencies, Texas A&M is reeling. The pollsters somehow felt like the Aggies were still a top 25 team, but Miami can end any discussion of that if they can roll into College Station and take care of business. For historical perspective when Appalaciahan State beat Michigan in 2007, Michigan lost their next game at home to Oregon 39-7.  Call it the App State hangover.
