UNC’s defense is a mess, but they move to a mildly surprising 2-0.

North Carolina fans take your jokes about their defense and show you their 2-0 start.

Do you think Virginia Tech and Boston College wouldn’t trade their close losses for undefeated?

FAMU moving the ball on the Heels last week was no fluke. We told you the Tar Heels had major major issues on defense.

Today people everywhere were picking Appalachian State to win in Boone, NC. Even Vegas favored them Saturday.

This was an extremely dangerous game for UNC. They gave up 40 4th quarter points and still won in a wild 63-61 game that sent them to a 2-0 with Georgia State next week. Given UNC’s defense, they can’t take any game for granted, but fixing a defense is a lot easier after W’s than L’s.

They also have an emerging star at QB in Drake Maye. Maye for 352 yards and 4 TDs, and guided UNC back after falling behind 21-7. He even ran for 76 yards today to go along with  9 TD passes this season!

The much-maligned defense came through stopping App State on their final attempt at 2-point conversion, but how do you fix that side of the ball?

Gene Chizik was brought in to correct things, but his defensive unit is frequently out of position, the tackling is awful, and most of the time it looks like 6 defenders are out there.

I refuse to believe there isn’t at least some talent on that side of the ball. Mack Brown has recruited pretty well.

If that can get even somewhat fixed, there is no telling how good this UNC team can be. The offense is explosive and can score from any position on the field at any time. This was without All-ACC WR Josh Downs today.

Wait until he returns, and I wish you luck trying to stop that offense.

Somehow for UNC if they get past Georgia State they could be 3-0 hosting Notre Dame, and that could be a lot of fun.
