Good Luck finally turns NC State’s way in crazy win over East Carolina.

Ok, you know the saying #NCSheet. The art of losing the opportunity for a victory in the most unlikely, improbable, baffling way imaginable.  It even has an R rated entry in the Urban Dictionary.

There have been the Game-winning missed chip shot FG against Clemson in 2016, COVID rules eliminating NC State from the Final 4 of the CWS with a real chance to win the national title, UCLA backing out of a bowl game where NC State had a chance at a double-digit win season for the first time in over 15 years.

Saturday against East Carolina NC State did everything wrong in the 2nd half after going up 21-7

  1. Inside the ECU 5-yard line – lost fumble
  2. Inside the ECU 5-yard yard – it was stuffed on 4th and goal in an inexplicable decision by Dave Doeren to not go up by double digits.
  3. Devin Leary Throws an interception
  4. Defense gives up 2 scoring drives

But and here’s the but. ECU shockingly missed a XP to still be down 21-20. They get the ball back and drive into a position where a 41-yard FG kick wins the game. They missed, and NC State survives.

As victims of the 2016 missed FG against Clemson, the Wolfpack know the pain of losing a game like this.

That Clemson team went on to the national title.

I’m not saying NC State will do that, but a lot of great seasons were built on games that shouldn’t have been won.

Today was that game for NC State.

I still believe this team can do big things this season. Devin Leary didn’t forget how to play QB. The defense still has some of the best LBs in the country, and this is still an experienced talented team.

Next week is Charleston Southern in what should be a comfortable game for the Wolfpack to correct some of the many mistakes they made today.

As my buddy @Hokiesmash_ASD said on Twitter “They won that’s all that matters”. Yes indeed.
