After Week One, Virginia Tech is the Most Disappointing Football Team in the Atlantic Coast Conference

Just a quick post here for a Friday night, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.

Virginia Tech lost to Old Dominion 20-17 tonight – in it’s second trip to Norfolk, VA.

Let’s be clear – it’s easy to blame the referees for a loss – but that’s absolutely NOT the case here tonight for the Virginia Tech Hokies football team.

Our friend, David Cunningham absolutely nails it, too:

I could not have said this better than David.  After college football week 1, Virginia Tech is the most disappointing team in the ACC.  I would be surprised if any ACC or Power 5 team had this combination of ridiculous turnovers and penalties – it was disastrous performance on so many levels that it’s hard to describe.

Let’s quantify Virginia Tech football grades tonight… C for the defense (they would have an A- if they did not allow the final score by the Monarchs offense), D- for the special teams, and a D- for the offense.

I was the absolutely least most optimistic person on our ACC picks this year.  I had the Hokies at 6-6.  I don’t think that’s even possible now.  Right now, you just have to hope that Virginia Tech can get a little better each week.

I think Virginia Tech fans are in for a LONG rebuild – and it might take 3-4 years.  Because it’s rock bottom right now.  Virginia Tech does not have the players to complete in the ACC or even the Coastal Division.
