Monte Lee has been at Clemson for 7 years. If you throw out the COVID 2020 year, that is still 6 years he’s never led Clemson to a super regional.
What’s worse is Lee is not even getting Clemson to the NCAA Tournament anymore.
In 2021 Clemson missed the NCAA tournament with a 25-27 record which was the Tiger’s worst season since 1957.
This year Clemson finished 12th in the ACC. After a 14-0 start, Clemson went 21-23 and now they wait to see if they make the NCAA Tournament.
With a #34 RPI and an 0-2 ACCT, I don’t like Clemson’s chances to make the field. The ACC has 10 teams that are a lock for the NCAA Tournament. Pittsburgh is 2 games from their own auto-bid, and that would seal Clemson’s absence from the tournament.
Last year we compared Monte Lee to former Virginia Tech football Justin Fuente. This is holding more and more true.
On paper what looks like a HR hire for traditional power, with a fast start, then a program that gradually sinks into irrelevance.
Even Lee knows he’s in trouble…

So are Lee’s days numbered?
It could all hinge on if Clemson makes the NCAA Tournament, and I don’t think they will.
