Pittsburgh throws wrench into which ACC Teams could make NCAA Baseball Tournament.

RPIs were pulled from WarranNolan.com

Before the ACC Tournament, the conference was looking at as many as 11 ACC teams possibly reaching the NCAA Tournament. One team that wasn’t on the NCAA radar was Pittsburgh.

The Panthers 2-0 with wins over Georgia Tech and Louisville are headed to the ACC Baseball Tournament Semi-Finals and thrown their name into the NCAA chase.

D1Baseball had 11 ACC teams making the field,   and Pittsburgh wasn’t one of those teams at the time.

What are the sports betting odds that the ACC gets all 12 teams into the NCAA tournament?

That’s not happening so somebody is getting left out.

Virginia Tech is in.

Miami is in.

Virginia is in.

North Carolina is in.

Georgia Tech is in.

Louisville is in.

Notre Dame is in.

Wake Forest is in.

Florida State is in.

NC State and their #39 RPI? Well, the wins over Wake Forest and Miami certainly help and will boost their RPI, but they did lose 4 of their previous 5 games. They reached the ACCT Semis. I like their chances to make it. In fact, I am calling them a lock.

Clemson and their #33 RPI? They are 4-5 in their previous 9 games, and if they lose their next game to Virginia Tech, I think they will miss the NCAAs. That would be the Tiger’s second straight missed NCAA tournament. That’s unacceptable for a proud Clemson program. Monte Lee looked like an HR hire, and now the Tigers are fighting for their NCAA lives.

What if they beat the ACC’s top team in the Hokies. That could the Tigers squarely on the bubble. I wouldn’t lose that game if I were them.

What about Pittsburgh? Their RPI is in the low 60s, but they’ve won those 2 games, and they did win a series over Clemson.

If they reach the ACCT Finals, they will be hard to leave out.

It’s coming down to Pittsburgh and Clemson. Maybe neither makes it, but there’s no chance both reach the NCAAs.
