When you’ve won 9 games in three years, there isn’t a lot to be excited about the upcoming season if you are a Georgia Tech fan.
You ended the season getting outscored 113-6, lost your last 2 games 100-0, and got beat in your last 6 games.
Oh and your best player RB Jahmyr Gibbs transferred to Alabama.
The Geoff Collins tenure has went worse than even worst-case scenarios envisioned.
Why should Georgia Tech fans be excited about football season?
Is it because there is a new OC Chip Long in Atlanta? Maybe the staff changes on defense will work out?
Could be, and possibly.
The schedule is daunting and let’s be honest it doesn’t look good for Georgia Tech.
Clemson, Ole Miss, UCF, and Pittsburgh are 4 of the first 5 games. Do you see a win there? Only if there is an unlikely upset.
Then 4 of your last 5 games are on the road. Georgia Tech has 3 road games in 3 years under Collins.
Here is why Georgia Tech fans should be excited.
One way or another by the end of November the nightmare will be over.
Should Georgia Tech exceed expectations and make a bowl game, then Yellow Jacket fans will be thrilled at doubling the win total of any previous season under Collins. Heck five wins might even satisfy Georgia Tech fans. Hope will be renewed, and Collins will be able to sell something of a tangible result of improvement. He’ll have shown a level of coaching growth not seen in his first 3 years.
If that doesn’t happen and it’s another 4 or win or fewer season at Georgia Tech, then that’s it for Collins. He’s done, he’s gone, and Georgia Tech fans can rejoice that day. Finally, the program can move forwards, and try to somehow put 4 lost years behind it. Geoff Collins will be remembered as one of the worst ACC football hires in the last 25 years.
You see Georgia Tech fans if Geoff Collins wins 3 games again – there will be a new coach.
If Georgia Tech makes a bowl a game and exceeds expectations then it’s the best most fun season Geoff Collins has ever had in Atlanta.
2022 is a year Jacket fans can’t lose no matter how season goes.
