North Carolina achieves eternal bragging rights on Coach K and Duke.

North Carolina did it. They slayed their arch-rival Duke 81-77 in the Final Four. The Tar Heels are now headed to the National Championship to play a red-hot Kansas team.

It’s been a remarkable run for the Tar Heels, and we’ll talk more about the Title game Sunday and Monday, but for now, let’s think about the amount of bragging rights North Carolina fans have over their friends from Durham.

There are bragging rights when you dominate your rival during regular-season games, but the bragging rights go to the next level when there’s some nationally meaningful on the line.

It doesn’t get any bigger than the Final Four and Coach K’s final game.

Think about this…

1) North Carolina beat Coach K in his final home game. OUCH.

2) Then in his final game of his career, North Carolina beats Coach K again and eliminates them from the NCAA Tournament. DOUBLE OUCH.

3) Hubert Davis will have a career 2-1 record over Coach K, TRIPLE OUCH

4) North Carolina is playing for the National Title, and if they win it? INFINITE OUCHS!

Duke has already been owned by North Carolina this year, but throw a national title on top of it, and the Blue Devils fans may want to stay in hiding for a while.

If you watched the UNC post-game interviews, Hubert Davis already has moved past the Duke win and sounded focused on Kansas.

This Tar Heel team stared down Coach K twice.

They stared down Baylor withstanding that team’s furious comeback.

They stared down an excellent UCLA team, and cinderella St. Peters.

Monday night? They’ll be ready.
