Duke is in Elite 8.
North Carolina is in Elite 8.
Miami is in Elite 8.
Duke, North Carolina, and Miami have turned the Elite 8 into the ACC Invitational. This was supposed to be a down year for the ACC. Duke wouldn’t defend. North Carolina was too inconsistent. Miami was too thin, and wouldn’t get past Auburn.
To go along with Notre Dame’s 2-1 NCAA start, the ACC is 11-2 in the NCAA Tournament.
You make a final judgment about a conference not in November and December, but in March. During the tournament, ACC teams have knocked off 7 teams ranked in the top 40 of the Net Rankings.
The signs were there that this could happen. Ok maybe not to this extent, but they were there.
Baylor, Texas Tech, Auburn, UCLA, Alabama, USC, and Michigan State, were beaten by 4 different ACC teams.
Guess what 2 of the Elite 8 matchups are favorable too for the ACC.
Duke beat a better defensive team in Texas Tech than Arkansas. UNC gets a feisty St. Peters team, but that is still a 15 seed.
Miami will be an underdog to Kansas, but * whispers *, they are better in the backcourt than Kansas.
Other conferences only wish their better seasons were as good as a “down” ACC basketball year.
It’s March Madness, and the ACC has taken its customary spot at the top of college basketball.
