Why the Chris Mack hire didn’t work out at Louisville is simply stunning.
Mack spent nine years at Xavier, and won nearly 70% of his games. Even after Xavier moved from the Atlantic 10 to the Big East he kept winning. He made the NCAA Tournament 8 out of 9 years with an Elite 8 and three Sweet 16 appearances. His last 4 Xavier teams were top 25 teams.
There was some talk of a lack of player development at Xavier, but really who saw it ending like this?
Chris Mack looked like one of the coaching pillars of the future of the ACC, and it just failed.
When Louisville’s Malik Williams said, “I don’t have a comment for that” when asked if Louisville players had tuned out the coaching staff, you knew it was over for Mack.
As @SethDavisHoops reports, Chris Mack will not return as Louisville’s head coach, a source confirmed. Official announcement expected for Wednesday.
Assistant Mike Pegues is expected to be Louisville’s interim head coach, starting with Saturday’s game against Duke.
