Georgia Tech currently has the worst football and men’s basketball combo in the ACC.

A few days ago we wrote how Wake Forest could have the ACC COY in football and men’s basketball. Well, there is always the other end of the spectrum. In 2021-2022 that end of the spectrum resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

The failures of Geoff Collin’s 3-year tenure are well documented at Georgia Tech. At the bottom of ACC football are Duke and Georgia Tech.

The difference is that Duke has a top 10 basketball team. Georgia Tech has one of the worst football programs in the ACC, and now they have a basketball team that sits at bottom of the ACC at 6-8 (0-4).

However the perception of what one thinks this basketball team could be, the reality is they are tied for last place in the ACC.

For Josh Pastner and company the games have been close. He is preaching future progress like his football counterpart, but results are results.

What should have been a watershed moment for Georgia Tech when they won the ACC Tournament in 2021 and made the NCAAs should have built positive momentum for this season. Josh Pastner couldn’t land a decent big man he desperately needed, and didn’t sign a single high school player in this recruiting cycle.

That’s a monumental failure to build on the title run.

Is Pastner on the same level of hot seat as Collins? Clearly not – Pastner has some tangible positive results – multiple NBA players, ACC Player awards, the ACC title, and a couple of 11 win ACC seasons.

There are still zero NCAA wins in 5 and now will be 6 years as head coach, though.

That said how will he build for the future when he couldn’t build off an ACC Title year? It’s a fair question.

Pittsburgh has a bottom-tier ACC basketball team but won the ACC Title in football. Boston College has a basketball team that is among the ACC’s worst, but their football team made a bowl game.

With a struggling football program, there is now a struggling basketball team that’s become currently the worst combination in the ACC.

Will it be that way at the end of the basketball season?
