On this day 3 years ago, Clemson caught Alabama.

It was January 7, 2019. On this day the Clemson Tigers caught the Alabama Crimson Tide as a program in a stunning 44-16 victory in route to the National Title and a 15-0 season.

It was special day in Clemson football history, and the fact that even for brief time that Clemson was on par with the Alabama dynasty during the Nick Saban era is a testament to how great this Tiger program became.

Some were ready to call that Alabama team the greatest team ever, but on this day Clemson ended that talk.

Clemson made their claim as one of the greatest teams ever, and is still very good, but hasn’t quite been able to reach that level since then.

To their credit Alabama went on to win another national title in 2020, and got back to the title game this year where they might win another.

Certainly there’s going to be more titles in Nick Saban’s future.

Saban may very well be the greatest coaching in college football history, but 3 years ago he took his worst defeat as an Alabama head coach.
