My podcast partner @Hokiesmash_ASD tweeted this very early in Virginia Tech’s bowl game, and it hits the mark of where the Hokie program is.
This is going to be a long day – and it shows how big a rebuilding job that Coach Pry has on his hands. I imagine that Pry is working the transfer portal hotlines at halftime as we speak. #Hokies #acc

It did indeed turn out to be a very long very embarrassing day for Virginia Tech against a mediocre Maryland team.
Yes the Hokies were decimated personal wise. That is a fact, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.
I credit them for getting out there and playing and competing as opposed to UCLA who cancelled their game with NC State hours before kickoff, but that was a total debacle.
It certainly does prove how far the Hokie does have to go in a rebuild.
After September Virginia Tech had three wins. Two were over dead ACC programs Duke and Georgia Tech, and only an inspired season ending win over Virginia salvaged something out of a totally lost season.
This will not be a quick fix at Virginia Tech. The Hokies are totally broken as a program.
Getting to a bowl game the next two years is a reasonable goal, and having a winning record somewhere in 2022 or 2023 would be a bonus.
It’s going be a long time at least 3+ years before we can even think about Virginia Tech again being a top 25 program.
