North Carolina’s throws NC State game away faster than their top 10 ranking.

It was only fitting that North Carolina regular season ended with a collapse so sudden and stunning, only the fact that the Tar Heels were ranked in the top 10 for week seems more preposterous than the finish.

Up 30-21, with just over 2 minutes to play the Tar Heels had just made a FG to seemingly close out the NC State Wolfpack.

Then it happened. A spectacular collapse that epitomized the North Carolina season in a 2 minute nutshell.

  1. A blown coverage on a long a TD pass with more than 90 seconds left.
  2. Completely whiffing on recovering the onsides kick, that NC State recovered.
  3. Multiple penalties in allowing the Wolfpack to drive the field and score a another TD.

This happened in 70 seconds. It happened so fast that UNC still had a minute themselves when they got the ball back.

They didn’t score and lost the game 34-30.

Of course, you have to give credit to NC State. They took advantage of every North Carolina mistake. That’s what good teams do to bad teams. They player smarter, and make fewer mistakes. NC State is good, and let’s be honest North Carolina isn’t.

All you need to need to know is North Carolina lost by blowout to a trainwreck of a Georgia Tech team whose headcoach Geoff Collins just received the dreaded vote of confidence this week.

North Carolina has a future NFL QB in Sam Howell and one the ACC’s most dynamic players in Josh Downs.

They finished the regular season 6-6.

That is not what was expected of Mack Brown in year 3. This was supposed to their breakthrough season. Now the Tar Heels need to win their bowl game to not have a losing season.

Mack Brown isn’t getting fired, but questions can be asked.

Despite great recruiting, can he pull North Carolina out of mediocrity? If not this year then when?

Just like the final 2 minutes of Friday night’s how did it all get away from North Carolina so fast?
