Just past the ACC mid-season Coaching Hotseat rankings.

As we get just past the ACC mid-season, how are those ACC Hot-Seat rankings going? Some coaches are working their way off, and some better work on their resumes.

This is what thing looked like before the season began.

We go from coldest to hottest.

0 – Ice Cold

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Dabo Swinney, Clemson  = 0

Clemson is 4-3, but Swinney is untouchable after winning 2 recent national titles, with a slew of playoff appearances. Now I wouldn’t get too comfortable if I were couple of of the offensive coordinators.

Dave Clawson, Wake Forest = 0

Wake Forest is 7-0 and the ACC’s highest ranked team. Any questions? Clawson is your ACC COY at his point in the season.

Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia  = 0

After a shaky 2-2 start and a suspect looking defense, the Hoos have run off 4 straight wins. The offense is one the ACC’s hottest and the defense is no longer a liability. QB Brennan Armstrong is in the thick of the ACC POY race.

Jeff Hafley, Boston College = .5

Boston College is 4-3 even after the loss of QB Phil Jurkovec, but they are 0-3 in the ACC which is a little frustrating for BC fans. Hafley is basically fine though. Nothing to see here.

Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh = .5

Pittsburgh has shown a level of consistency rarely seen under Pat Narduzzi this year. Other than the bizarre loss to Western Michigan, this team is really solid. They have a great shot to win the Coastal Division. Oh and they gave Clemson their worst ACC loss since 2014.

Dave Doeren, NC State = 1.75

Doeren has NC State 5-2, but it still feels like something is lacking. NC State should not have lost at Mississippi State or Miami. They aren’t out of the ACC Atlantic by any stretch, but you just can’t completely erase the doubts you have about Doeren.

Mack Brown, UNC  = 2

You simply can’t have the expectations the Heels started the season with, and not have Brown feel some heat. If the Heels don’t finish the season with some momentum, this could easily be a bit hotter by the end of the year.

Scott Satterfield, Louisville = 2.5

Scott Satterfield has Louisville 4-3, but where he stands with Louisville fans changes week to week. Unless the Cardinals go on a run to finish the season, there’s going to be continued grumbling. They did knock off Boston College Saturday.

Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech  = 2.75

Georgia Tech has had a few highlights this year on the way to a 3-4 start, but there’s the unforgivable loss to NIU, and defensive debacles against Virginia and Pittsburgh. Collins probably survives the season, but staff changes need to be made.

Mike Norvell, Florida State  = 2.75

A month ago FSU fans were already trying to figure out how to move on from Norvell after an 0-4 start, but they are 3-0 since. He’s slowly winning back the fanbase, but it’s a brutal finish.

Dino Babers, Syracuse  = 3

Dino Babers seat has cooled considerably since the start of the year. They are still only a year removed from a 1 win season, but they have improved quite a bit this year, and a bowl game is in sight.

David Cutcliffe, Duke – 4

Duke had a bit of surprising 3-1 start, but have lost the last 3, and are the worst team in the ACC. This program seems stale, and it really needs to move in a new direction.

Manny Diaz, Miami = 4.5

Manny Diaz’s seat was on fire, but an upset of NC State Saturday for the week will quiet the Diaz critics. It’s been a disappointing season, and Diaz is not well liked. At least he’s not Justin Fuente.

Justin Fuente  = 5

Fuente is toast. The Hokies continues to find ways to blow games in the most mind boggling ways. I don’t see how he survives the season unless the Hokies just don’t want to pay the buyout.
