At mid-way point, should Georgia Tech fans be satisfied with 3-3 start?

Saturday Georgia Tech gutted out a 31-27 win over the Duke Blue Devils. After a 14-0 GT start, if we’re being honest Duke outplayed Georgia Tech for the majority of the game after the 8 or 9 minute mark of the first quarter.

If you’re a Duke fan, you have to fuming. The Blue Devils won the turnover battle 2-1, outgained the Jackets 489-440, and Mateo Durant rushed for over 150 yards and lost.

When the margin of error is so thin, the difference is a handful of plays.

David Cutcliffe largely was conservative in his play calling and it resulted in 2 missed FGs, and with 50 seconds left a slow moving final drive that ended in an interception.

Geoff Collins down 27-24, was very aggressive on Georgia Tech’s final drive and played for the win taking multiple shots at the end zone.

Georgia Tech now stands 3-3 at the mid-point of the season.

How should Georgia Tech fans feel going into the BYE Week.?

First of all the Jackets have been literally all over the place. From an ugly NIU loss to open the season, to Georgia Tech’s best win under Collins in a win over over UNC. There was a close game with a down, but still pretty good Clemson team on the road. Then there was a debacle of a loss at home to Pitt, and win at Duke without playing your best game.

This one is tough to gauge…

There is no reason that Georgia Tech should have lost to NIU or been no show against Pittsburgh.

With that said, there are some positives. Geoff Collins matched his best win total for season however modest after 6 games. The UNC game was so tantalizingly good, that you could see how good they can be when all cylinders are hitting.

Winning a game in the final drive could be a major confidence builder for QB Jeff Sims. Winning breeds winning, and pulling out a game that seemed lost could play dividends later.

The Jackets need to be develop consistency. That’s the issue.

They don’t have it week to week, but you can’t totally dismiss them either.

They Jackets have reached the mid-point with the post-season still possible.

No Georgia Tech fans should not be satisfied, but they can have some level of hope going into the BYE Week.
