ACC Power Rankings after Week 5

ACC Team of the Week : Florida State – for beating Syracuse 33-30 for the Noles first win.

14. Florida State (1-4)

Last Week: 14

Florida State got their first win of the year against Syracuse. That’s great and much needed because I don’t see a 2nd one this week on the road at UNC.

13. Miami (2-3)

Last Week: 12

Miami just finds ways to lose games. Brutal finish to the Virginia game, when a chip shot FG was missed. Manny Diaz’s seat is getting hot.

12. Syracuse (3-2)

Last week: 11

Syracuse lost a lot of momentum losing to FSU. Now they get the ACC’s top ranked team – Wake Forest.

11. Duke (3-2)

Last Week: 9

Duke got trounced by UNC this weekend. The loser of their game with Georgia Tech probably won’t make a bowl game.

10. Georgia Tech (2-3)

Last Week : 8

Can anybody explain which Georgia Tech will show up week to week? Pitt ran them out of their own city. Lose at Duke, and the season is toast.

9. Virginia  (3-2)

Last Week: 13

Virginia’s maligned defense made some plays at Miami. Intriguing game this week at Louisville.

8. Louisville (3-2)

Last Week: 6

Louisville fans were not happy with the officiating against Wake Forest, but this team is certainly trending in the right direction overall. The scoreboard could get lit up against Virginia.

7. North Carolina (3-2)

Last Week: 10

Florida State provides an opportunity to get on a roll for the Heels after thumping Duke.

6. Pitt (4-1)

Last week: 7

Kenny Pickett is starting to get some darkhorse Heisman buzz. They destroyed Georgia Tech this past weekend, and are off this week.

5. Virginia Tech (3-1)

Last Week: 5

Virginia Tech could find themselves back in the top 25 if they beat Notre Dame this weekend. It should be a fantastic environment in Blacksburg.

4. Boston College (4-1)

Last Week: 2

Boston College was marching towards the winning score against Clemson, when a fumble ended their chances. They get a week off to seethe about it.

3. Clemson (3-2)

Last Week: 4

Clemson’s offense took some baby steps towards being functional against Boston College. The week off couldn’t come at a better time for the Tigers.

2. NC State (4-1)

Last Week: 3

It didn’t look pretty, but NC State took care of Louisiana Tech. Taking care of business is half the battle these days in the ACC. The Wolfpack get week off to get set and try to make a run at the ACC Atlantic title.

1. Wake Forest (5-0)

Last Week: 3

You know Wake Forest has arrived when they go from the loveable Deacs, to having their coach and team complained about by fellow ACC fans. Embrace it Wake Forest. A game at Syracuse is a sneaky tough test.
