Wake Forest
We’ve reached the end of Best and Worse Case Record for the ACC with Wake Forest. The Deacs have made five straight bowl games, winning three of them. They have won at least 7 games four of the last five years. The Deacs always seem to be overlooked, but they are firmly entrenched as a dangerous bowl capable team year in and year out. Dave Clawson has done an outstanding job elevating the Deacs to this point, and now Wake Forest looks to break the 8 win barrier and have a top 25 season.
Will Go 8-4 (4-4) if:
Wake Forest can get to Halloween 7-1. The Deac’s finish to the season along with Georgia Tech’s is the ACC’s most difficult. With games at North Carolina, NC State, at Clemson and at Boston College in November, Wake Forest would do well to steal one of those games. Until then the schedule is one that Wake Forest may be able to manage. Sam Hartman is back and looks to rebound after a nightmare bowl game against Wisconsin. The Deacs top runner Christian Beal-Smith and receiver Jaquarii Roberson are back. The offense could be very good, and if the defense improves Wake Forest can be sneaky good.
Will Go 5-7 (2-6) if:
The defense isn’t more consistent. In Wake Forest’s 4 wins they didn’t give up more than 23 points. In their 5 losses they gave up at least 37 points. That was the tale of the 2020 season. Wake Forest’s offense should be fine, and be able to put up points against most teams. The defense though could be the issue. The finishing kick of UNC, NC State, at Clemson and at Boston College could easily be an 0-4 stretch. Games like FSU, at Virginia, Louisville are toss ups, and the Deacs still aren’t talented to just show up and beat most ACC teams.
