Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.
By now, unless you’ve been lying under a rock, you know that Virginia Tech men’s basketball probably has one of the most consequential hires in the history of it’s program.
Yes, that’s true.
Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach, Mike Young, hired Mike Jones as the Hokies associate head men’s basketball coach.
Here’s a bit more about Mike Jones:
Absolutely LOVE Virginia Tech coach Mike Young’s hire of DeMatha’s Mike Jones as his associate head coach. Young has been coaching one of best high school programs for nearly two decades, also been involved with USA Basketball for a while. https://t.co/pxkyhi7bdN

As the young kids say, this is a BFD. Mike Jones has been a head coach at one of the nation’s very best high school basketball programs in the Washington, DC area. DeMatha High School is an absolute power house – and Jones was there for 19 years and 511 wins. Five of his former players are in the NBA. Here’s what Jones had to say:
Last week, after rumors surfaced that Virginia Tech was targeting Jones, the coach was bombarded with messages from Hokies fans urging him to join the program.
“That love caught me off guard,” Jones said. “For so many fans, who don’t even know me, to reach out and say they wanted me to join this community? I could not be more excited and ready to pour everything I have into that basketball program.”
Here’s what Mike Young had to say (via @BermanRoanoke):
Jones steered DeMatha Catholic in suburban Washington for 19 seasons.
“The two most important things to me are hiring the right people and great teachers,” Young said in a phone interview. “I kept coming back to Mike Jones when I considered that. He’s a wonderful gentleman and he’s a really, really good basketball coach.
“Really proud that we were able to attract someone of Mike’s caliber.”Jones should be quite effective recruiting for Tech in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia.
