How the ACC’s Final Week of Baseball affects the NCAA Tournament

Each Sunday we round up the week’s NCAA Tournament Baseball projections from 3 sites.

The ACC will get 7-9 teams into the field, but who is a lock and will needs a strong finish is what we are going to look at in the regular season’s final week.

We pull RPI  and data with rankings from WarranNolan.com. RPI in the last column.

LOCKS

Notre Dame, Florida State, NC State, Louisville

Notre Dame has a series with Virginia Tech and is playing for seeding. Florida State has an intriguing series with NC State, and should be playing for a chance to host a regional, but inexplicably were left off the list potential host sites.  The Wolfpack are playing some of the best baseball in the ACC in what should be a fun weekend.

Louisville is fine but fading. USC Upstate and a series with Miami is not an easy finish.

BUBBLE BUT IN

Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina,

If Georgia Tech hadn’t blown a 4 run lead Sunday and Miami, I would have moved them into the lock status. They are still in good shape, and just need to go 2-2 with games against UGA, and series with UNC to lock up a bid.

UNC can’t fall below .500 in the ACC or they are in trouble.

Miami plays FAU and a series against Louisville, just needs 1 win over Louisville to feel safe. Like UNC falling below .500 in conference can make things a little dicey.

Pittsburgh has lost 6 of their last 8 games, but ending the season with Akron and a Wake Forest series should lock up a bid.

BUBBLE BUT OUT

Clemson, Virginia Tech, Virginia

Clemson better take the series with Duke who just swept Virginia Tech. That was a crippling sweep for the Hokies who have a series they need to win against Notre Dame.

Virginia picked a perfect time to sweep Wake Forest, and if they handle the Boston College series they could be the team that comes out of this group of 3.

OUT

Wake Forest, Duke, Boston College

All Wake Forest, Duke, and Boston College can do is make life tough for Pittsburgh, Clemson, and Virginia.
