Each ACC team’s path to the NCAA Tournament (updated 3/11/2021)

We’ve been reviewing each ACC team’s NCAA path prior to the ACC tournament, and now with the ACC tournament going things can change quickly.

On to the semi-finals of the ACC Tournament!

LOCKS

Virginia 18-6 (15-4) – current seed 4

Florida State 15-5 (11-4) – current seed 5

North Carolina 17-9 (12-6) – current seed 7

Clemson 16-7 (10-7) – current seed 8

Virginia Tech 15-6 (9-5) – current seed 9

Georgia Tech 16-8 (12-6) – current seed 10

North Carolina is making the biggest move in the ACC Tournament. The Heels could be a real problem for FSU. Virginia with their win won’t drop lower than a 4. Clemson appears headed to the 8/9 game as does Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech is a 10, but comfortably in the field. If the Jackets defeat UVa, they could approached the 8/9 seed line as well.

BUBBLE (Don’t need to win ACC Tournament)

Syracuse 16-9 (10-8) – current seed 11

Louisville 13-7 (8-6) – Last 4 in

Duke 13-11 (11-9) – OUT

Syracuse and Louisville are benefiting from the bubble around the country falling apart. Syracuse lost a close one to Virginia, but the recent win over UNC is looking better and better. Louisville is teetering, with that ugly 4-6 finish and bowing out of the ACC Tournament with the Wednesday loss to Duke. If the Cards make the NCAAs, it will be just barely.

COVID ended Duke’s run, and they had a shot against Florida State. They’ll get a look, but in the end Duke doesn’t have enough to make the field.

IT’S OVER

NC State 13-10 (9-9)

Miami 10-17 (6-16)

Notre Dame 11-15 (8-12)

Pittsburgh 10-12 (6-11)

Wake Forest 6-16 (3-16)

Boston College 4-16 (2-12)

For these teams the season is over. NC State had to beat Syracuse to even approach the bubble. The Wolfpack may get a NIT call, but the others have no chance at the post-season.
