Each ACC team’s path to the NCAA Tournament (updated 3/9/2021)

We’ve been reviewing each ACC team’s NCAA path prior to the ACC tournament, and now with the ACC tournament going things can change quickly.

Day 1 of the ACC tournament is over with Duke, Miami, and Notre Dame advancing.

LOCKS

Florida State 15-5 (11-4)

Virginia 17-6 (13-4)

Virginia Tech 15-5 (9-4)

Clemson 16-6 (10-6)

Georgia Tech 15-8 (11-6)

North Carolina 16-9 (10-6)

These six teams in the ACC that don’t need worry. Clemson and North Carolina are in action tomorrow, but they are playing for NCAA seeding only. There’s a lot of hardware for the top 4 teams. Georgia Tech is sitting back with the newly crowned ACC POY Moses Wright, and ACC Defensive POY Jose Alvarado. Virginia Tech had the ACC COY Mike Young. Virginia is your ACC regular season champ, and Florida State had the freshman of the year with Scottie Barnes.

BUBBLE (Don’t need to win ACC Tournament)

Louisville 13-6 (8-5)

Duke 12-11 (10-9)

NC State 13-9 (9-8)

Syracuse 15-8 (9-7)

Louisville may make the NCAA tournament with a loss, but it would really put them in a very very precarious position. Duke is a dangerous opponent, that needs a deep ACCT of their own. Duke is obviously out with loss. If Duke gets to Saturday they make the field, I believe.

For Syracuse and NC State it’s a loser leave town match. The loser has no chance at the NCAA’s. The winner doesn’t need to win the ACC Title, but needs a run to at least Friday.

These are 4 teams on or near bubble. One is going to make it to the NCAAs.

NEED A MIRACLE

Miami 9-16 (5-15)

Notre Dame 11-14 (8-11)

For Miami and Notre Dame it’s survive and advance. As long as they are playing there’s a chance for a miracle championship run for Miami and Notre Dame. The Irish already had a miracle moment with that final shot against Wake Forest.

IT’S OVER

Pittsburgh 10-12 (6-11)

Wake Forest 6-16 (3-16)

Boston College 4-16 (2-12)

Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Boston College well the season is over. Wake Forest is particular had a brutal last second loss to Notre Dame.
