Each ACC team’s path to the NCAA Tournament (updated 3/6/2021)

With just over a week left before Selection Sunday, it’s time to take an in-depth look at each ACC team’s path to the NCAA tournament before the weekend’s games. There’s been plenty of recent shakeup.

This is what is needed to be a NCAA Tournament team prior to the ACC Tournament.

We’ll be reviewing ACC Tournament scenarios on Sunday.

LOCKS

Florida State 15-5 (11-4)

Virginia 17-6 (13-4)

Virginia Tech 15-5 (9-4)

Clemson 16-6 (10-6)

Georgia Tech 15-8 (11-6)

North Carolina 16-9 (10-6)

Georgia Tech’s late season surge has pushed them into into the NCAA tournament for the first time under Josh Pastner. North Carolina took care of Duke which locked up their bid. Virginia is your ACC regular champs as Florida State faded down the stretch. That’s 6 locks for the ACC going into the ACC Tournament. None of these teams will miss the NCAA tournament no matter how they perform in Greensboro.

BUBBLE

Louisville 13-6 (8-5)

Louisville could have locked up a NCAA bid by defeating Uva. That didn’t happen. If Selection Sunday were tomorrow, the Cardinals would be on the Bubble, but in. The loss to Virginia sent the Cardinals plummeting from Double Bbye to 7th in the ACC. Selection Sunday could get a little dicey for Louisville if they don’t win at least one game in the ACC Tournament.

FORGET IT

Duke 11-11 (9-9)

Syracuse 15-8 (9-7)

Notre Dame 10-14 (7-11)

Pittsburgh 10-11 (6-10)

Wake Forest 6-15 (3-15)

Miami 8-16 (4-15)

Boston College 4-15 (2-11)

NC State 13-9 (9-8)

No team on this list is in the NCAA Tournament prior to the ACC Tournament. With that said Syracuse and NC State in are in different positions than the others. They don’t need to win the ACC Tournament to make the Big Dance, the others do. We’ll evaluate their scenarios in detail in our Sunday post.
