Clemson basketball belongs back in the Top 25.

Rankings pulled from http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2021/index

There’s a basketball team in the ACC that is 15-5 (9-5) with a resume of wins that’s just about any team outside of Baylor, Gonzaga, and Michigan would be happy to have. They are also un-ranked and they shouldn’t be. It’s time to put Clemson back in the top 25, and if we’re being honest when you look at their wins they should probably be closer to 15 than 25.

Give a blue-blood that resume, where do you think a North Carolina, Duke or Kentucky would be ranked?

You know as well as I they wouldn’t be unranked.

This can’t be said enough Clemson currently is 9-5 against the Q1 and Q2 portion of their schedule. They have no Q3 or Q4 losses.

Here are some of the teams in the Top 50 Net that Clemson has beat this year.

Purdue (16-8) Net Ranking – 21

Maryland (13-10) Net Ranking – 32

Alabama (18-6) Net Ranking – 9

Florida State (14-3) Net Ranking – 10

Louisville (12-5) Net Ranking – 48

North Carolina (14-8) Net Ranking – 43

Georgia Tech (13-8) Net Ranking – 40

Clemson is being unfairly penalized for a two week period after their first COVID pause  where yes the Tigers did struggle. Between January 16-30 Clemson went 1-4 with 4 double digit losses to Virginia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Duke. At least three of those teams, and possibly all 4 could be NCAA teams.

Since then Clemson hasn’t lost a game in February and is on a 5 game winning streak.

Even the RPI has Clemson #7.

In the AP poll Clemson is #34 and the Coaches poll has them #32.

If there are 31 better teams in college basketball, I have to question if the pollsters are even watching college basketball.

Well ESPN’s Joe Lunardi still has a 13-11 (6-11) Minnesota team that has 2 wins since mid January on his bubble, so maybe there isn’t much college basketball watching going on.

Brad Brownell has put together one of his best Clemson teams, and they should be rewarded.
