After the gut-wrenching loss to Clemson, Georgia Tech sat 9-8 (6-6) with the season teetering on total collapse. The Jackets needed a 5-1 finish to get them to 14-9 (11-7). That’s the target record, I’ve feel the Jackets need to get into the Big Dance.
Three games later after a hard fought win over Pitt, a blow-out win over Miami, and then a resume win at Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech improves to 12-8 (8-6).
Tuesday night, I would describe the Jackets win as “mature”. The final score was 69-53, but it was far closer than that. Most of the second half the working margin for Georgia Tech was 6-12 points, and Virginia Tech never backed down. With each Hokie run, though Georgia Tech responded with a play from any number of players.
Moses Wright had 26 points Jose Alvarado and Michael Devoe combined for 25. When Georgia Tech gets their big 3 playing well, they can stay with anyone in the ACC. Not exactly Lethal Weapon 3, that’s still a very formidable trio.
With Syracuse, Duke, and Wake Foerst left, the Jackets need a 2-1 finish for that 14-9 (11-7) target.
I don’t give Josh Pastner credit often, but he now has Georgia Tech playing their best basketball of the season at the right time.
