Jose Alvarado wills Georgia Tech to win over Florida State

Georgia Tech has one of the best point guard lineages in college basketball. At one time, Georgia Tech and point guard U frequently came together in the same sentence. From Mark Price, to Kenny Anderson, to Travis Best, to Jarrett Jack great PG play was synonymous with Georgia Tech.

It’s been awhile since Georgia Tech had a truly great PG. I think we safely add Jose Alvarado to that great list of players. Senior Jose Alvarado is playing at a 1st team All-ACC level, ranking 3rd in the ACC in scoring, 5th in FG percentage, 5th in assists, 3rd in FT percentage, and 1st in steals.

You can make the argument he’s the best pure PG in the ACC in 2021.

He’s the heart and soul of Georgia Tech who have spent the entire year trying to overcome  season opening losses to Georgia State and Mercer to make the NCAA tournament.

Saturday went a long way to keeping that NCAA Tournament goal in site, as Georgia Tech defeated red hot #16 lorida State 76-65.

The Noles since their pause had won their previous 5 games by more than 18 points a game. Georgia Tech was coming off close, but frustrating losses to Virginia and  Duke.

Today may have been season, if Georgia Tech didn’t win. Jose Alvarado made sure that did happen. Facing a backcourt with players the caliber of MJ Walker and Scottie Barnes, Alvarado was the best player on the floor.

Alvarado had 21 points, on 8/16 shooting, 6 assists and 5 steals. Time and time again coming up with timely steals, critical baskets, and largely willing Georgia Tech to an important victory with significant contributions from teammates Michael Devoe and Moses Wright.

If Georgia Tech is going to make the NCAA tournament they will do it on the back of their team leader Jose Alvarado who is playing as well any Georgia Tech PG since at least Jarret Jack was in Atlanta more than 15 years ago.
